That layered arrangement is easy to understand, but it creates more cartridges and housings to reach. Leave enough wall clearance to open them without cutting plumbing. Its stated 7 GPM flow may be ample in a modest home, but fixture count matters more than bedroom labels. Add the likely simultaneous demand from showers, faucets, laundry, and appliances. If the house regularly exceeds the rated service flow, investigate a larger configuration rather than accepting disappointing pressure.
Plumbing details can reverse the recommendation
Measure the service-line diameter and the available straight-run length. Note the main shutoff, drain access, electrical equipment nearby, and whether freezing is possible. Both tanks are heavy once installed and must stand upright on a stable surface. A licensed plumber can preserve code-required bonding, backflow provisions, and pressure control.
Also decide whether outdoor irrigation should bypass treatment. Filtering lawn water consumes media capacity without improving indoor water. A bypass around the entire system helps with service; isolation valves around replaceable housings reduce mess.

Do not choose either to solve a contaminant its documents do not address. The best purchase may be a smaller point-of-use filter, a separate softener, or no treatment at all once the water report is understood. Spending on evidence first is cheaper than installing a large tank that solves the wrong problem.
Before signing an installation quote, ask the contractor to write down expected service flow, pressure loss, cartridge part numbers, drain or backwash needs, and what happens during a power or water outage. Photograph the valve positions after commissioning. Keep an untreated sample point if practical so changes in taste can be separated from treatment performance. Retest any health-related contaminant on the schedule recommended by the laboratory or local authority; a clear glass and pleasant taste are not proof of removal.
