Buy the PUR PLUS FM2500V when you want filtered drinking water from a compatible standard faucet without adding an under-sink installation. Its main trade-off is a small cartridge that needs regular replacement and takes up space at the spout. A pull-out kitchen spray head is a reason to choose another filter architecture before comparing prices.

This review uses PUR’s current system page, RF9999 replacement documentation and performance data sheet, checked on 30 September 2026. We also checked the matching gray Amazon listing. We have not measured contaminant reduction, taste, leakage or cartridge life. The fit and ownership calculations below are editorial analysis of the published limits.

Decide whether the faucet is eligible first

PUR’s FM2500V documentation excludes pull-out and hand-held faucets. The installation depends on removing a conventional aerator and identifying the spout’s internal or external threading. A brand name on the faucet is not enough to establish that interface.

The manufacturer lists an overall envelope of 6.4 by 5.4 by 2.8 inches. Use that as a rough space check, then confirm the mounted orientation. It does not tell you how much clearance your particular spout leaves over a saucepan.

Match the claim to the RF9999 cartridge

The current performance sheet names FM2500V and distinguishes RF9999 from RF3375. It lists specific reductions under NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401. Those numbers do not establish that the filter handles every contaminant, nor that every listed substance occurs in your supply.

PUR explicitly says this system does not filter microbes. It is not a way to make microbiologically unsafe or unknown-quality water safe without the appropriate disinfection. If you need a response to a water advisory, follow the supplier or health authority’s instructions rather than treating an Amazon filter as permission to ignore it.

The performance sheet specifies cold-water conditions: 34–82°F, 20–100 psi and a rated service flow of 0.52 gallons per minute. Those are documented operating conditions, not measurements from our kitchen. They also explain why this unit should not be bought as an unrestricted hot-water or high-flow fixture accessory.

A cartridge budget based on your filtered gallons

PUR’s RF9999 page gives a limit of up to 100 gallons or three months. Plan around whichever applicable limit arrives first, and follow any earlier service instruction. Switching back to unfiltered mode for tasks that do not require filtered water can make your recorded consumption more representative of drinking and cooking use.

Keep the installation and change dates in the kitchen filter maintenance record . A filter light or calendar reminder is useful only if it leads to the correct replacement and prescribed flush.

Our buying verdict

The FM2500V is a sensible small installation when the faucet interface, working space and documented reduction claim all pass. Skip it for an incompatible spray head, a housewide treatment problem, or an expectation of water disinfection. Higher filtered-water use also makes replacement cost a decision factor rather than an afterthought.
